In June 1992, the United Nations convened its Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro. It was the largest United Nations conference ever held.
Produced in association with the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, Earth Summit ’92 draws together the main concerns of the event. Divided into four sections covering social and economic dimensions, conservation and management of resources for development, strengthening the role of major groups and means of implementation, each of the 40 chapters incorporates guidelines on basis for action, objectives, activities and financing and cost evaluation. The fully illustrated book also contains the 27 principles of the Rio declaration and Agenda 21 – the Programme of action for sustainable development which was agreed by governments at Rio.
